Can the message of the Church still be trusted?Five years ago the Cardinal and Olivier Le Gendre began a discussion of surprising frankness on the Church, its function and its official positions on diverse topics since the death of Jean-Paul II and the anxious election of his successor.In 2010 they recommenced their discussions but in a very different context. Olivier Le Gendre almost died from a serious illness and the cardinal's work has delved even deeper into the world of the impoverished. Their considerations are understandably more profound, more spiritual.Has the message of the church become so far removed from the basic principles of the Gospel and Christ (the values of humility, charity and caring for the poor) that it no longer has the capacity to recover its former eminence? Is not one of the main causes an ageing hierarchy clinging to its privileges?
