Maggie Whitfield thought she was simply going to the federal building to help a frightened young woman from church. She had no idea she was stepping into an investigation that would consume more than a year of her life. When Elena Morales is detained over fraudulent citizenship documents she believed were legitimate, Maggie and her pastor husband, David, are called to her side. Maggie is told she will be helping too.Soon there are recorded telephone calls, secret meetings, weekly handoffs on federal property, and a mysterious white truck with out-of-state plates appearing regularly at Elena's home. Maggie cannot explain any of it-not even when members of David's church begin noticing her visits and drawing their own conclusions. Before long, whispers spread that the pastor's wife may be having an affair.Maggie and David could defend their reputation with the truth. But telling the truth could jeopardize the investigation-and put Elena in even greater danger. As the months pass, the case reaches farther than anyone imagined. The man behind Elena's documents is becoming bolder. Investigators believe someone inside the government may be helping him. And when he finally decides Birmingham might be the perfect place to expand his operation, Maggie finds herself closer to the heart of the investigation than she ever intended to be.She was never an investigator. She was never looking for danger. She was just helping a friend.Inspired by true events, Just Helping a Friend is a clean Christian suspense novel about friendship, faith, courage, reputation, and the extraordinary places an ordinary act of compassion can lead.
