Johnny Mercer's 100th birthday will be November 18, 2009. Mercer wrote over 1,500 song, wrote lyrics for many theatrical productions, co-founded Capitol Records, co-founded the Songwriters Hall of Fame, was nominated for 19 Academy Awards, won 4 Academy Awards, had over 100 hit songs, had songs used in over 385 movies and had 13 top-ten hits as a singer. This edition includes additional photographs, Stories From Pin Point - stories written and illustrated by Johnny Mercer and some of his childhood friends, updated and expended lists of Mercer' song creations, songs contributed to the movies and songs written for theatrical productions. A new section lists the songs written by Johnny Mercer available on compact discs. We see the birth of the Capitol Records label and Mercer's association with Nat "King" Cole, Peggy Lee, Betty Hutton, Judy Garland, Jo Stafford, Harold Arlen, Hoagy Carmichael, Irving Berlin, Harry Warren, Fred Astaire, Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby, Benny Goodmand and many others. Mercer also experienced the shattering disappointment of several Broadway shows that failed.
