In 1982, Jitka Hanzlová fled the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic for West Germany, where she studied photography in Essen. Her biography shapes the central themes of her work: exile, memory, and identity. The catalog for the ALBERTINA exhibition presents ten of her most important series, including one that has never been published before: Rokytnik (1990-1994) is dedicated to the artist's home village of the same name, and Forest (2000-2005) to the forest of her childhood.
