Extreme events are now a fact of life, marked in particular by changes in precipitation patterns. In the Mediterranean basin, and particularly in Algeria, these events are becoming increasingly frequent. This study analyzes rainfall extremes in Algeria through their spatial distribution, temporal evolution and return periods, based on the homogenization of observed data and their increased spatial resolution through the integration of satellite observations, using adapted statistical methods. The application of extreme value theory has enabled us to model extreme precipitation as well as wet and dry periods, by integrating drought indices.
