There is a sense of authenticity to events... The story leavens fact and fiction... Goodreads For a book that deals with the subject of war and its unforeseen effects on those at the front lines, its tone remains gentle and personal. Tragic, funny, sad, happy. This book has it all. An amazing page turner. Amazon ... while portraying the ugliness of war as well as the camaraderie and loyalty among soldiers, it also shines a light on the women from NL whose roles, sacrifices, commitments and contributions to WW1 were significant and too often forgotten.
