If You Only Knew - Why Blind Trust Fails is a my firsthand whistleblower account from inside Raychem Corporation, where I supervised production and later led Quality Control for two high-risk wire insulation products: Poly-X and Flamtrol.On the factory floor and in the test lab, I witnessed practices that compromised safety-shortcuts, altered test results, and a culture that discouraged dissent. Poly-X, installed in aircraft including the Boeing 747, developed severe insulation cracking problems that I believe were never fully acknowledged. This issue later surfaced during the investigation as the most likely to have caused the TWA Flight 800 crash.Flamtrol cable, used in nuclear facilities such as the Brunswick Nuclear Power Station, failed critical water absorption tests-yet remained in service. When I attempted to expose these failures, I encountered resistance not only within the company but also from regulators, including the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.The strain of being pressured to endorse compromised results led to a mental breakdown. Refusing to remain silent, I stepped forward as a whistleblower, supported in part by Leon Panetta, and confronted a system more focused on containment than truth.This is a story about integrity under pressure-and what happens when institutions choose protection over accountability.
