Icons of the Dead Hand

In a forgotten monastery carved into the side of a mountain, silence is not sacred. It is a warning.Brother Elias arrives at the Monastery of Saint Mercurius seeking atonement and isolation. Once a skilled restorer of sacred icons, he now carries guilt heavier than sin and hopes that among the monks' quiet rituals he can find peace. But the silence hides something else-something ancient, watching, and hungry. It begins with a painting. An icon no one recalls commissioning, bearing eyes that should not be alive, and a style Elias cannot deny is his own. Soon, other images begin to appear-on walls, under floorboards, even in prayer books. They are not merely art. They are windows. And what gazes from the other side does not belong to any god.As Elias's grip on time and self erodes, he is drawn deeper into a mystery buried beneath centuries of monastic secrecy: the origin of a sacred oil known only as Oleum Vigilantis-the Oil of the Watcher. Forbidden texts speak of a hand that guides itself, of saints who flay themselves into paint, and of a voice that speaks through brushstrokes rather than words.Beside Elias stands Sister Thalia, the archivist who dares to read what the others have sealed. Together, they uncover a lineage of painters who vanished, their last icons still wet with pigment. Each image brings them closer to something that is not God, not man, and not entirely dead.It does not want prayer. It wants memory. It wants to be painted.Icons of the Dead Hand is a cerebral and atmospheric horror novel blending theological dread, artistic obsession, and psychological unraveling. Fans of The Name of the Rose, The Ritual, and House of Leaves will find themselves lost in a spiraling tale of haunted faith and terrifying beauty. This is not a story about finding salvation. This is a story about what happens when the canvas watches you back.
