Bol "This is a book of memories about my father, the late Hillman Seth Gantling. Although my father was blind, he had many accomplishments in life. He graduated from high school, which was rare for a black man in that era. He put the first payment down on his land at the age of twelve and later built a house on it. He learned the art of caning and repairing the caning in chairs and was also an accomplished broom maker. More than that, Daddy was a man of principle, an honest and hardworking man who was also compassionate and loving. He taught me so many things and was revered in our neighborhood as a man of unusual wisdom. There was just one thing my father lacked, and you'll have to read his story to learn what that was. Most of all, Daddy was my hero. " Coretha Gantling
