I am a Beagle

Meet Scout, a determined Beagle with a white-tipped tail and a world of smells to read. In I Am a Beagle from the I Am a Dog series, author Kimberlee Everson invites children ages 5-10 to imagine life through a dog's nose as Scout helps her kid, Maya, track down a lost stuffed bunny in a busy park. Told in Scout's warm, first-dog voice, this gentle story blends real animal behavior with emotional insight-pride in a powerful nose, the overwhelm of too many scents, the pause to breathe and refocus, and the calm joy of success. Young readers see how attention, patience, and empathy help in moments that feel big. Back matter includes true Beagle facts: how long, floppy ears help sweep scent; why dogs can have far more scent receptors than people; safe habits for scenthounds (leashes, fences, and time to sniff); and the real jobs some Beagles do as detection dogs. A comforting read-aloud for home or classroom from Sky Tortoise Press.
