Humour in Uniform: The Lighter Side of Military Life

Humour in Uniform: The Lighter Side of Military Life takes readers behind the polished boots, crisp uniforms and disciplined routines of the Defence Forces to discover something rarely seen in official photographs-the wonderfully human and often hilarious side of service life. Written with warmth, nostalgia and gentle humour by M K Devidasan, a retired Wing Commander of the Indian Air Force and engineer, this collection brings together amusing situations inspired by the everyday experiences of people in uniform. From the first nervous day in uniform to the chaos of parade preparations, from mysterious missing files to aircraft that seem to develop faults at precisely the wrong moment, these stories celebrate the small incidents that become unforgettable memories. Meet the engineer who is expected to fix everything, the serviceman desperately navigating a leave application, the family preparing for yet another posting, the neighbours who happen to be fellow officers, and the mess committee capable of turning a simple discussion about food into a strategic conference. And then there is tea-the unofficial fuel of military life, capable of bringing people together during meetings, technical problems, late-night duties and moments of crisis. But this is more than a collection of jokes. It is a tribute to camaraderie, friendship, resilience and the human spirit behind the uniform. For veterans, serving personnel and their families, the stories may bring back familiar memories. For civilian readers, they offer an entertaining glimpse into a world of discipline, duty and unexpected laughter. Because behind every serious uniform is a human being-and wherever human beings gather, humour is never far away.
