Xulu-Gama, Nomkhosi is an Associate Professor and a Head of Sociology Department at the University of Cape Town and a Fulbright scholar. She is also a Honorary Research Affiliate at the Faculty of Management Sciences at the Durban University of Technology. She has been part of the South African Review of Sociology Journal Editorial Collective and a vice president of the South African Sociological Association. Her research interests include hostels, rural-urban connections, migration, livelihoods, gender, higher education. Her key publications include Hostels in South Africa: Spaces of Perplexity (2017) and Migration in Southern Africa (2022).
