The Sixty-Nine Stations along the Kisokaidō is a curated reprint of the legendary woodblock series by Keisai Eisen and Utagawa Hiroshige, depicting the historic route between Edo and Kyoto. Completed after Eisen’s initial 24 prints, Hiroshige finished the 70-work sequence in 1838, showcasing both artists’ distinctive styles. The collection traverses from the bustling Nihonbashi starting post to the castle town of Iwamurata, blending Eisen’s muted palette and expressive figures with Hiroshige’s sweeping landscapes, from riverbanks and passes to moonlit ascents. This edition highlights the series as a milestone in woodblock practice and as a vivid portrait of 19th-century Japan before industrialization.

The present Taschen edition is drawn from a premier surviving first edition and reissued as a compact anniversary volume. It is a Geïllustreerd - Meertalig hardcover, presenting a richly illustrated, multilingual experience of the Kisokaidō journey.
