Bol The book is an attempt to explain the torsion-induced gyrotropy in CdS, first observed and investigated by our team at the specialized "Laboratory for the Study of the Optical Properties of the Condensed Matter" at University of Shumen "Bishop Konstantin Preslavski", Bulgaria. We called the effect torsogyration. It manifests as an elliptical birefringence that reaches a magnitude labeled "giant gyrotropy". We developed two heuristic models, the Phenomenological model and the Micromechanism model. In them, at a descriptive level, are presented processes, with the help of which the manifestation of torsogyration in the torsionally deformed crystals of hexagonal CdS can be explained. The book is intended for physicists concerned with optical properties of crystals and dispersion phenomena in crystals with isotropic point.
