This descriptive, prospective, and cross-sectional study examines the behavior of these substances at a hospital in Guayaquil, based on the results of a survey administered to users, as well as an indirect observation matrix. The study sample consisted of 30 newborns. According to the results, the most common signs observed in the newborns were irritability, accounting for more than 27%; followed by high-pitched cries and crying, at 17%; vomiting and muscle hypertrophy were reported in 10% of cases; diarrhea and depression in the newborn were recorded less frequently at 7% and 10%, respectively; in addition, other less frequent signs and symptoms accounted for the remaining 27% of cases.
