Her Artificial Heart: 3

She wanted to give this eclectic man and his unique island half a chance if only they would stop hurling spitballs at her. Certainly, while the dead children, mad scientist, and tasered woman had made for a rough start-if one ignored the monkey in a test tube, then Homer's office, this lovely garden, and the man himself might qualify as quite likeable.Dr. Claudia Vlakia, a maverick cardiac surgeon, is summoned to a secretive Mediterranean island run by an enigmatic dictator. There, she discovers a high-tech clinic fueled by illegal organ harvesting. With her goddaughter's life hanging in the balance, Claudia must navigate a world of moral ambiguity, and choose between her revolutionary bionic heart technology, a black-market transplant, and the dark secrets of a man who offers both damnation and salvation. Her Artificial Heart is a stand-alone novel in the Paths Unknown series about women adventurers. In the tradition of Michael Crichton and H.G.Wells, this 85,000-word bio-thriller is a cautionary tale about scientists who play God. A journey that questions whether the pursuit of greatness inevitably leads to moral and ethical corruption.
