Heidi's Journey to Mastery: Through Diligence

Heidi Wanted to Build a Robot. Her Grandpa Gave Her a Broom.Seven-year-old Heidi dreams of inventions. Solar cars. Wind-turbine bridges. A small robot to clean the lake outside her grandfather's workshop in Granholm. So when she finally crosses the threshold of Anders's workshop, she expects gears and tools and a notebook. Instead, he hands her a broom.Month after month, she sweeps. Then she sorts parts. Then she watches. Then she asks. And one day, deep in winter, Anders pulls back the cloth from a workbench, and Heidi begins to build. Failures pile up. Notebook entries fill. The bot falls apart and comes back together a dozen times. And then, one summer afternoon by the lake, the bot stands up on its own.A picture book about diligence - the unglamorous truth that mastery is built one small careful thing at a time. For the child who wants to skip ahead, and for the grown-ups who know why slowing down matters.Perfect for: STEM-curious readers, classroom conversations about practice and perseverance, intergenerational reading, ages 5 to 9.From the Eva Gallo Collection.
