Hanifa

This is the story of a singularly unique woman. Hanifa was raised in Uganda, a country that does not value the education of girls beyond a rudimentary level. As the daughter of a Muslim missionary her desire to gain a higher level of education was further frowned upon.. Hanifa fought against inflexible cultural hurdles to follow her dream, only later to become the victim of a vicious acid attack. Dispite this disfiguring assault, Hanifa fought to continue her education and became an advocate for women's education and women's rights. She has led the charge to change laws in Uganda and has become an international voice against domestic violence. Hers is a compelling story of resolve, of the power of education and follows her rise from poverty to the world stage.
