GUARDING the FLAME: a priest's reflection on temptation, custody of heart, and weight consecration

There is a fire that burns quietly in every priest's life - and no one ever taught him how to guard it. Guarding the Flame is the honest companion seminary formation too often leaves out: a pastoral reflection on the real, ordinary difficulty of celibate fidelity, and the daily discipline that keeps a vow alive across a lifetime. Drawing on the wisdom of the Desert Fathers, the witness of St. John Vianney, and decades of honest conversation with priests themselves, this book speaks plainly about temptation, loneliness, and the small vigilances that prevent great falls - without shame, without sensationalism, and without ever losing sight of what this sacrifice makes possible: a love undivided, and a fruitfulness that outlasts the man. For every seminarian discerning if he has what this vocation asks, and every priest who has carried it far longer than anyone thought to ask how he was doing - this is the book that finally says the quiet part out loud.
