Growing up in the Shadow of War: 2

After the devastation of World War II, Australia began to rebuild. Families expanded, and a new generation-the Baby Boomers-came of age. The 1950s and 1960s brought major cultural change, as Australian society gradually moved away from conservatism and toward more liberal values. The book follows Micah, a fictional character growing up in this era. His childhood is shaped by family violence, poverty, faith, fear and brief moments of joy. Alongside this hardship, the story captures vivid memories of ordinary Australian childhood: billycarts, bush trips, Moomba, the Melbourne Show, footy, swimming pools and the 1956 Olympics. As a teenager in the 1960s, Micah comes of age amid alcohol, romance, friendship, rock 'n' roll, work, holidays, crisis and recovery. As the decade turns, he faces marriage, war and family life. This book takes readers on a suspenseful journey through emotional highs and lows, holding their attention until the final page.
