Granta Books A Room Above Shop Boek

Two quiet men form a tentative connection in South Wales, where M inherits his family’s ironmongery business and offers B a job and lodging. The two men grow closer as they share a room above the shop, building a life together that could shatter if their public performance falters. This tender and resonant love story unfolds against a challenging social backdrop, in a debut novel that balances intimate detail with broader cultural tension.

Set against the era of Section 28, the age of consent debates and the HIV/AIDS crisis, the narrative explores longing, risk and belonging with quiet candour.
