The fires left the author (Amber Ray Snyder) and her family without a home and without personal artifacts or "things" that were either once bought or collected for joy. During one of the phone calls with her father during the fires, Amber remembered him saying, "it's just stuff". It was with that phrase that Georgina Gnome and Things! was born. The fires took everything; but not the important thing, each other.
