These methodological guidelines describe the genetic nature of hereditary abnormalities and the prevalence of genetic defects in cattle (BLAD, CVM, DUMPS, BC, Brachyspina, FXID); they also outline methods for determining genetic distances, heterozygosity and pedigree, which enhance the effectiveness of selection. It is known that genotyping breeding animals for the kappa-casein and beta-lactoglobulin loci is of practical importance, as the genetic variants of these proteins are associated with the technological properties of milk. This paper describes molecular genetic methods for determining DNA polymorphism at the lactoferrin locus and the GDF9 gene in breeding cows. The recommendations provide details on conducting genomic analysis using the Real-Time PCR method. In this study, the authors utilised the Real-Time PCR SNP diagnostic method for the first time to detect point mutations in the CD18 and UMP genes in breeding bulls. Recently, DNA markers have been used to verify the pedigree of breeding animals. These methodological guidelines are intended for Master's and PhD students specialising in veterinary medicine, veterinary public health and biotechnology.
