Genetic engineering

Genetic engineering refers to the set of techniques that enable the manipulation of the genomes of living organisms and viruses in vitro; in other words, genetic manipulations are carried out not on the living organism itself (as in classical genetics and mutagenesis) but on isolated genomic fragments in vitro. This makes it possible to modify the genome of a living organism by introducing one or more genetic elements from another biological entity. To this end, this book has been written to assist university students, in line with the new LMD system curriculum. It serves as a general treatise on the principles of genetic engineering, helping students to understand and assimilate the basic concepts. As for the exercises, a wide variety are provided in the exercise sections to enable students to apply their knowledge of the subject.
