From the Garden City to Green Cities

Ebenezer Howard's To-morrow: A Peaceful Path to Real Reform (also known in slightly different form as Garden Cities of To-morrow ), originally published over 100 years ago, was credited by Lewis Mumford (in 1965) as having done "more than any other single book to guide the modern town planning movement." Alternately described as utopian or reformist, Howard's book envisioned an alternative to the crowded Victorian conditions of London and other cities. Parsons (formerly city planning, Cornell U.) and Schuyler (humanities, Franklin & Marshall College) present 10 papers that assess the impact of the book and its continuing relevance for urban and regional planning.
