From Negus to Niggers: Amerikhans

From Negus to Niggers: Amerikhans is a formal, thought-provoking exploration of how language can be reshaped by power, conquest, and repetition. Drawing on etymology, cultural memory, and personal reflection, Keke LiBron examines the possible historical connections between Negus, an ancient title of kingship in Abyssinia/Ethiopia, and the word nigger, a term that has carried deep pain, controversy, and shifting meanings across generations. The book traces how words once tied to honor, identity, and sacred leadership can be inverted into symbols of degradation through colonization and social control. It also considers how the word has lived in everyday speech, music, and public debate, and why education is essential to understanding its history. Written to challenge assumptions and encourage deeper comprehension, this book invites readers to reconsider the origins of language, the politics of meaning, and the power of reclaiming truth from distortion.
