For Safe Keeping takes place in 1896 when Li Chan, a 17-year-old Chinese man; Maria, a young Mexican girl; and Joey, her little brother, meet in Congress, Arizona. After unforeseen circumstances leave them alone with no money, they have no choice but to walk to his home in California; about 800 miles. Their romantic and exciting adventure has the authentic feel of the last years of the Old West as Li Chan and Maria struggle with their fears and feelings. Growing up when you're being chased by cruel villains isn't easy, even if you're not falling in love at the same time!
