Finding Purpose Beyond the Shield: A Journey of Service, Commitment, and Leadership

Finding Purpose Beyond the Shield is a leadership memoir about rediscovering purpose after service-a journey from the streets of New York to the classroom, and from the beat to the State Capitol. U.S. Army Reserve veteran, retired NYPD lieutenant, and public servant Michael Reilly shares his deeply personal story of integrity, resilience, and renewal. From the intensity of police work to the challenges of recovery after injury, Reilly reflects on the moments that tested his courage, reshaped his identity, and redefined what it meant to lead. Through powerful real-life experiences and lessons learned in uniform and beyond, Reilly offers a blueprint for values-based leadership grounded in service, empathy, and accountability. His story reminds us that purpose doesn't end when a chapter closes-it evolves. Finding Purpose Beyond the Shield is both a reflection and a call to action for anyone seeking meaning, leadership, and purpose in their own life.
