Mary Carla Davis, LCSW, began Finding My Moon as an experiment. She wanted to experience what she practiced every day with clients and apply it to her own life.Carla used the same process she had used for decades in her counseling practice, remembering her own story and the people and life events that not only impacted her, but inspired her. Along the way, she rediscovered the strengths and tools that had helped her throughout her life. What began as a personal exercise took on a life of its own. It became Finding My Moon.Sometimes, we lose sight of ourselves.Life happens. Relationships change us. Loss changes us. The voices of other people can become louder than our own. Somewhere along the way, we may forget the person we once knew ourselves to be.But our story is more powerful than the things that hurt us.It holds the people who believed in us, sometimes before we knew how to believe in ourselves. It holds places where we felt safe and moments when we felt we belonged. It holds our strengths, abilities, talents, gifts, determination, and the things that have helped us get back up when life knocked us down.Finding My Moon is an invitation to look at your own story and to remember the people, places, and experiences that influenced you, in both good and not so good ways. It helps you to understand the patterns, ways of being, that may have followed you through life. Most importantly, it helps you to recognize the strengths and inner resources that have been there all along. As you reclaim your history, you will find choices to consider and practical tools you can use to better understand yourself, care for yourself, and build a more secure relationship with the person you live with every day. That person is you!And somewhere along the way, you may recognize someone you thought you had lost and find yourself saying, "There you are!"
