Finding Maggie Malone

April 1861. Maggie Malone is abducted by rioting rebels in Baltimore, Maryland, and ends up trapped in Manassas behind Southern lines at the first battle of the American Civil War. When a South Carolina slave accidentally shoots one of her abductors, an unlikely friendship forms as the pair flees west to San Francisco. When Gunny Malone hears that her granddaughter is missing, she sails from Ireland to find Maggie before the teen is lost forever in the chaos of war. With only a few clues to guide her, she heads to San Francisco. But the only ship that can get her there is owned by Matthew McCrohan, a man who left her heartbroken at the altar in pre-famine Ireland. In this sweeping Civil War-era adventure, two women's lives are interwoven as one travels along the treacherous Oregon Trail and the other sails around the tip of South America's Cape Horn in a race against time to reunite their broken family.
