Facebook - Everything's rubbish without you!: A content analysis of gender differences in posts

The social network Facebook is the most popular social network in the world. Whether young or old, male or female, everyone uses it to present themselves online. To what extent does self-presentation differ according to gender? To investigate the extent to which the self-presentation of women and men, their level of self-disclosure and their interests vary, the book focuses on the similarities and differences in the content of posts by men and women. The first part of the book presents the theoretical background on the mechanisms of stereotypes, the content and causes of gender stereotypes, the background to impression management, and gender differences in offline and online self-presentation. It then explains how the exploratory content analysis of gender differences in Facebook posts was conducted. In the final part of the book, the results of the content analysis that do not conform to the theory are critically discussed and reflected upon.
