Environmental Justice in Digital Worlds

In Environmental Justice in Digital Worlds, Ian Werkheiser uses theories of environmental philosophy and related fields to explore how Mixed Reality technologies will reshape our physical world. Mixed Reality technologies, in which our physical world is intertwined with elements of digital, virtual "worlds," are on the cusp of widespread adoption. However, important questions about what these technologies will do to the world around us, how we will move through these new environments, and how we will interact with each other remain under-examined. In Environmental Justice in Digital Worlds, Ian Werkheiser uses theories of environmental philosophy and related fields to explore how Mixed Reality technologies will reshape our environment. How, and how much, can the risks of this new technology be avoided? To what extent are they inherent in technology, and are those costs worth the potential benefits? Through conversations with engineers and designers working at the cutting edge of these technologies, and with activists working on issues of environmental justice, Werkheiser takes the reader on a journey into what kind of future these new technologies may create.
