Protestant synod buildings were the scenes of historic events and are places of seminal decision-making. Their appearance varies and is often characterised by local styles, but they have one thing in common: their architecture expresses the equality within the Protestant church. Text: Bilingual German and English The featured synod buildings in Scotland, Ireland, Hungary, Italy and Germany were predominantly built in the 19th and early 20th centuries, at a time when democratic processes were being initiated in large parts of Europe. The publication also deals with the question of the extent to which the architecture of parliament buildings and synod halls influenced each other.
