Endangered fauna: Freshwater Environment

In aquatic environment populations of living fauna have been decreasing gradually year after year due to various anthropogenic reasons. Of various fauna some are endangered in nature while others are threatened, near-threatened, vulnerable or rare as well. As for example Ompok pabo has been enlisted under endangered category. Similarly, Chitala chitala is enlisted under threatened or near-threatened category of fauna. During last few decades populations of a number of aquatic fauna have been declining drastically under various aquatic environmental habitats. There are many more uncertain conditions existing in the environment which triggers reducing of faunal population dimension. During extreme climatic conditions fluctuations of environmental characters may stimulate or suppress faunal behavior which may be another reason behind gradual declination of the faunal population. In other way, it may result sharp declination of the population growth.Gradual siltation in aquatic ecosystem is an important suppressing factor which alters the usual behavior of physico chemical properties of water bodies.
