Echoes of Resilience

From the rural village of Ouelessebougou in Mali to the modern streets of Washington DC, this compelling narrative captures a journey of resilience, ambition, and dedication. Growing up without electricity or running water, I helped my father in his travels over long distances on a bicycle to deliver merchandise to weekly markets.This book chronicles my transition from these humble beginnings to becoming an educator, first in Mali and then in the United States. My academic pursuits took me from Bamako to Paris to Bloomington, Indiana and eventually to Washington DC, where I encountered cultural challenges and professional milestones, including roles at the World Bank and the African Virtual University. Fueled by an unwavering passion for education and to take it where it was needed most, I founded DeAfrica, an initiative providing distance education to Africans, achieving remarkable success despite many challenges: lack of funding, poor infrastructure, treacherous trips across forests, villages, crocodile infested rivers and many sleepless mosquito-filled nights.Deeply influenced by my father's entrepreneurial spirit, hard work, generosity and commitment to helping others, this story showcases the transformative power of education and the importance of giving back.
