DUFFER'S DAY OUT

Duffer's Day Out has been a long time coming. Based on a true story from the life of the author. This whirlwind of a dark comedy will have you gasping in horror one moment, then laughing out loud the next. When Danny first asked me to read this book, I had no idea what to expect. That didn't matter. There was no way I could have foreseen what was lying in wait for me. The plot is as unpredictable as a Scottish golf course, with as many patches as smooth as there are rough. Raw emotions shine through the characters, who's lives are woven together through the intertwining subplots. Right off the bat, what immediately caught my attention was Danny's immersive writing skills. You are drawn into the gritty heart of Glasgow to witness this ill fated golf outing unfold in the most delicious and disastrous way. His characters are from all walks of life: vivid, rugged and painfully relatable. Their victories and losses are magnetic; some I cheered for, some I hated, and my heart ached for others still. Comeuppance and misfortune are served in equal measures. Through the story, Danny explores the full range of human kindness and cruelty, and how the smallest actions can ripple into the biggest of consequences. Duffer's Day Out is testament to how sometimes truth can be stranger than fiction. Even in a city as big as Glasgow, the world is smaller than we think.
