DRIVING THE SNAKES OUT THE PLAY is a stage version of Frank's DRIVING THE SNAKES OUT THE NOVEL. This brings Elsie's diary & ramblings to the page-&-stage through the imagination of Frank Westcott. This is a difficult book-play-literary-vehicle. It was difficult in the writing & in the re-reading, yet Elsie is heroic in her own way, and maybe fighting the fight for all of us, keeping the balance in the unbalanced, bordering on insanity. In this play, as in the novel, you can follow Elsie's mental illness & anguish through her diary entries, as she delves into her own psyche with, who we think is, Dr Shepps, and we see Elsie ultimately lose to her illness.
