Het nieuwe album van de Canadese singer/songwriter Donovan Woods is een studie in contrasten, wat je ook kan verwachten met de naam 'Both Ways'. “What started the idea was people telling me, ‘You can't have it both ways.’ Or, ‘You can't have a record full of thoughtful lyrics that also gets played on the radio. You can't have those things both ways.’ This is just me trying to have both.”, aldus Woods. Die push and pull ziet hij zowel muzikaal als in relaties en hij weet beide te vangen in songs die zowel de traditionele singer/songwriter route volgen als ook buiten die grenzen treed met invloeden uit Rock en R&B. Het leverde hem al diverse award nominaties en een catalogus met meer dan 60 miljoen streams op naast dat zijn songs voorbij komen in films en TV series en ook opgenomen worden door anderen zoals Charles Kelley (Lady Antebellum) en Tim McGraw.
