In Mali, rice is a strategic commodity for food security and plays a vital role in the lives of rural populations who depend on it for their survival. It contributes to poverty reduction and accounts for 5% of the country's GDP. Despite the country's significant potential for rice production, it still relies on imports. Indeed, the rate of distribution and use of improved seeds remains low, which poses a major problem in the face of changing climate conditions. The lack of availability of improved seeds remains the main constraint on their limited use. It is in this context that the IER, through the CRRA in Sikasso, has set up a DHS trial of nine newly developed varieties and two controls: NRICA4 and DKA-P30.
