Depression and ADHD are among the best-known conditions within the area of social and emotional development. Dealing with children and young people affected by these conditions is not always straightforward. This paper aims to explore how empathy plays a key role in working with those affected and how it can help and facilitate interaction. Particular attention is paid here to the role of the teacher, who comes into contact with affected children and young people in the course of their professional work and wishes to foster an approach that supports their learning.
