Declassified

Training cats to spy on the Kremlin was the aim of the US Acoustic Kitty project, one of the revelations from top secret documents examined in Declassified, alongside the spies Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, the Zimmermann Telegram, Project Iceworm and Operation Paperclip. Declassified explores some of the most remarkable revelations to have emerged from top secret documents brought to light in recent years. It ranges from revelations of spies and sleeper agents, such as Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, to the frankly bizarre Acoustic Kitty project, in which the US government trained cats to spy on the Kremlin, to the murky tale of the 'disappeared' citizens during Argentina's military dictatorship. In this book, the author explores these remarkable projects, questions how seriously they were taken by the governments of the day and asks what the implications are of such efforts being conducted in our name without our knowledge. Includes:• The Zimmermann Telegram, where the exposure of secret German telegram helped draw America into World War I.• The Roswell Incident, where a suspected UFO sighting was revealed to be a military balloon testing operation.• Project Iceworm, where U.S. planned to build nuclear missile launch sites under Greenland's ice.• Operation Paperclip, where the U.S. recruited Nazi scientists to advance American military and space technology.• Operation Northwoods, a proposed false-flag operation to justify U.S. military intervention in Cuba.
