Harper is very good at looking like she has it all together. The schedules. The serving. The smile. The ex-boyfriend she definitely isn't still heartbroken over. So when her best friends dare her to take Micah Sanders to a gala and convince her ex she's moved on, Harper agrees. It's one night. One fake date. And one annoyingly dependable man she is absolutely not going to fall for. There's just one problem. Micah is already in love with her. He's spent months keeping his feelings to himself, content to be the guy Harper argues with at Bible study and rolls her eyes at between his terrible dad jokes. Pretending to be her boyfriend should be a terrible idea. Instead, it starts to feel dangerously real. Because Micah sees beneath the color-coded schedules and endless volunteering to the woman exhausting herself trying to be enough-for her family, for everyone around her, and even for God. And the longer Harper pretends to fall for him, the harder it becomes to ignore that Micah might be the first person who's never asked her to perform for his love. Now Harper has to decide what happens when the pretending ends. Because falling isn't nearly as terrifying when you finally believe you don't have to earn the person waiting to catch you.
