Dahij

In Dahij, Felwine Sarr offers a singular literary work that defies genre, moving between narrative, philosophical meditation, and interior monologue. The book unfolds in fragments, tracing a consciousness unsettled by injustice, historical rupture, and moral dichotomies. At once intimate and collective, it is a memoir of spiritual and social struggle and endurance of disillusionments, awakenings, and becoming-written in a prose that is spare, lucid, and quietly intense.First published in French, Dahij was widely praised for its intellectual rigor and emotional restraint, and for its refusal of easy resolutions. Critics noted its rare ability to hold political urgency and inner transformation as part of a single ethical vision, situating the book at the crossroads of literature, philosophy, and ethical inquiry. Subtle, unsettling, and deeply resonant, Dahij confirms Sarr as one of the most distinctive and compelling voices in contemporary African writing.
