In the wake of financial and economic crises, and in response to the scarcity of traditional funding sources, crowdfunding has emerged as an alternative form of financing. In crowdfunding, projects are supported collectively via online platforms. On some platforms, this principle is being applied to urban and neighbourhood development projects. It is emphasised that crowdfunding can expand opportunities for collective decision-making on spatial development and shares parallels with collaborative planning processes. This study embeds the topic within the planning-theoretical discourse on collaborative planning and examines platforms to identify the specific tools through which urban crowdfunding is implemented.
