Contemplations on the Sermon Mount

Contemplations on the Sermon on the Mount presents sixteen lectures by H.H. Pope Shenouda III, Pope and Patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church, on the teaching of Christ in the Sermon on the Mount, first given in 1967.For Pope Shenouda the Sermon on the Mount is "indeed the constitution of Christianity". It deserves more than a quick reading: he urges readers to meditate on it, to learn it by heart, and above all to live it, so that each person may become a sermon read by all people. These contemplations walk through Christ's words with the depth and practical wisdom for which His Holiness is loved. They help the reader see how the Beatitudes and the commandments of the Sermon on the Mount apply to everyday Christian life, and they invite a real change of heart rather than head knowledge alone. The book is suited to personal devotional reading, Bible study groups, youth meetings and preparation for sermons and Sunday school lessons. Priests, servants and students of Scripture will find it a faithful Orthodox reading of one of the best-loved passages of the Gospel, and every Christian will find encouragement to walk in the way Christ taught.
