Concrete Playground

EN - In late 2020 the Inter-Beton concrete plant in Ghent - the 'Betoncentrale' in the lingo - was demolished. With this book the cultural department of the city of Ghent, wants to keep the memory of this graffiti paradise alive. A team of expert image editors identified the most important street artists who were active there at the time, providing a selection of the work that adorned the walls of the plant. Street art expert Tristan Manco situates the local scene in its international context while street art blogger Giulia Riva talked to the artists about their memories of that unique place. With work by PHASE, DHL crew and other pioneers, Bisser, Bué the Warrior, Arrf the wolf, ROA, Resto, Cee Pil, Gentuza Collective, Klaas Van der Linden, Samor, TOYS and Keep Punching Joe. NL - Eind 2020 werd in Gent de Inter-Betonfabriek, 'de Betoncentrale' in de volksmond, gesloopt. Met dit boek wil Cultuur Gent, de cultuurdienst van Stad Gent, de herinnering aan het graffitiparadijs levend houden. Een beeldredactie van experts selecteerde de belangrijkste street artists die er actief waren en toont een uitgelezen selectie van het werk dat de muren van de fabriek sierde. Streetartexpert Tristan Manco kadert de lokale scène in haar internationale context en Giulia Riva, blogger over streetart, sprak met de kunstenaars over hun herinneringen aan die unieke plek.
