Beschrijving
Clearing the Path is the first volume in the collected writings of Ñāṇavīra Thera, presenting the writings that originated after he attained sotāpatti (Stream-entry) on 27.06.1959. The volume is complemented by Seeking the Path, a second volume containing his early writings (1954-1960) and marginalia. In 1963, Ñāṇavīra Thera advised correspondents to treat pre-1960 writings with great reserve, noting that some views had changed around that time and inconsistencies could arise if older passages were read alongside later ones. Clearing the Path comprises the final version of the principal work Notes on Dhamma (1960-1965), faithfully restored from the original manuscript, followed by the letters exchanged with several interested individuals during the last five years of his life. Part of this correspondence began after Notes on Dhamma was first published and circulated privately, and it can be seen as a commentary on the Notes. Notes on Dhamma has been described in various ways, reflecting its provocative and influential character, and the author himself suggested that while it may not win general approval, it could inspire private transformations in readers’ thinking.
Ñāṇavīra Thera is presented as the author throughout the material, with the work framed as the later, post-stream-entry writings and their related correspondence.
