Cines de Cuba

A photographic and architectural journey through the Cinemas of Cuba.In 1953, Cuba had 694 cinemas and theaters. Havana alone had 134, more than New York or Paris. In 2014 photographer Carolina Sandretto set out to find and photograph, with a 1950's medium-format camera, the remaining cinemas from that golden era. This book is the visual document of her journey. The volume collects evocative images of the hundreds of cinemas in Cuba. An investigation into the place of cinema in our culture through the Cuban cinemas, which allowed the photographer to tell a story about a global society. A document of the incredible piece of cultural and architectural patrimony that Cuba has to offer the world.
