Women have classically been defined by childbearing, but this concept is short sighted and has been out of date since the sixties when women entered the work force in large numbers. Beth, the major character in this book, fully understands the limitations of motherhood but that did not discourage her from entering the science field at a young age She was ridiculed by her professors.But she had the insight to make patterns of science ideas then execute novel experiments.
