Children's drawings from childhood through to adolescence

This thesis examines the development of children's drawing from childhood through to adolescence, and investigates whether pupils become increasingly dissatisfied with their realistic drawings as they get older, as they attempt to depict the world as it really is, or rather as they actually perceive it. A questionnaire was used to analyse how pupils assess their own ability to depict people, animals and objects realistically. The paper begins by describing the individual developmental stages of drawing, from childhood through to adolescence. The central section of the paper focuses on teaching objectives, advising teachers on how a lesson in art education should be structured and what factors need to be taken into account. Furthermore, this paper addresses the question of how young people assess their own ability to draw people, animals and objects realistically. Finally, after engaging with this thesis, the reader should gain an overview of the methods used in realistic drawing.
